Frigiliana - local shops and marketsThis page of the Frigiliana website takes a look at some of the shops in the area. Below you will find information on:Frigiliana's local shopsWithin walking distance of the apartment you will find a variety of, mainly quite simple, village shops.The lighting shop next door to the apartment block sells basic essentials (water, beer, cleaning materials etc). Walk up the steps to the village, turn left and in 100 meters you arrive at a small shop selling a small range of groceries, wines and spirits. If you walk in the opposite direction you will come to many small grocery shops which usually sell cheese and ham as well as fruit and vegetables. Frigiliana is famous for its delicious olive oil and nearly all the shops stock this local delicacy. It's well worth trying in your cooking, or just liberally poured over a salad. The other local speciality is the Muscatel wine - some people love it, and others loathe it. Either way it has to be tried and most shops with any variety will let you have a taste for free. At the other end of the village, up the village road from the Balcon de Frigiliana you will find a small supermarket (Spa) and a pharmacy. For anything more than basics you will have to drive to the supermarkets in Nerja, covered in the following paragraph. The nearest supermarkets to FrigilianaThere are three supermarkets within about 4 miles of Frigiliana and all of them are located in Nerja and are easy to reach.Mercadona. Drive towards Nerja and at the roundabout where it signposts the Parador take this exit (left). Look ahead and slightly to the right and you will see the supermarket. Drive as far as the flashing orange light of the pedestrian crossing, and as soon as you get to the crossing take a sharp right turn. Follow the signs and you will reach the Mercadona carpark. Mercadona undoubtedly stocks the widest range of products, especially fresh fish, meat and cheese. If you walk out of Mercadona, turn right, cross the road and walk about 100 meters you will come to a lovely fuit and vegetable shop which is worth a visit. Hipersol. If you continue ahead at the roundabout mentioned above, you will arrive at the Hipersol supermarket and its carpark on the right. Not as big as Mercadona, but again quite good for fresh meat and fish. MAS. Turn right at the roundabout after Hipersol and in about 100 meters you will find the MAS supermarket. Smaller once again, it stocks a limited range of produce but it does have the widest selection of English food if this of interest to you, or your family! Wander around Nerja for only a few minutes in a morning and you will find a wide variety of food shops as well as a number of boutiques and other retailers. The nearest shopping mall to FrigilianaThe nearest shopping mall is about 15 miles down the motorway toward Malaga. Take the exit for Velez Malaga and Torre del mar and you can't miss the large "Ingenio" "Eroski" signs.Here you will find a large Hypermarket, fashion stores, fast food outlets, a large Dunnes stores, and many other shops. It also sells cheap petrol and is very close to a large and popular water park, which is well worth a visit. The complex also houses a cinema which usually screens one English language film each week Street market days for Frigiliana and nearby townsAll the local towns hold a market day. Be careful you know which day it is and on no account park anywhere near where the stalls will be erected - you will be towed away and fined!Sunday.Nerja car boot sale Monday. Torrox-Costa Tuesday.
